IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ALASKANS
DONATING TO CARS FOR HOMES™

Alaskans wishing to donate a vehicle to the Cars for Homes Program should access this program at carsforhomes.org . Complete all of the required information, print and sign the form, and mail that form to the CarsForHomes address given. DO NOT SIGN OR SEND IN YOUR TITLE AT THIS TIME . Call Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage's Development Director at 272-0800 and give us your name and the transaction number from the printed form you submitted. WE WILL CALL the Cars For Homes Program and see if they have found an Alaskan outlet (and there are only two) for your vehicle. If and only if WE TELL YOU that the Cars for Homes Program accepts your vehicle should you sign and submit the title to your vehicle so that they will be able to make an appointment to pick up your vehicle donation.

The Cars for Homes Program anticipates making changes to their website for donors from Alaska, but until this change has been made, please follow the procedure above so you keep possession of the title until your vehicle has DEFINITELY BEEN ACCEPTED by this program. We appreciate your desire to help build more homes through your vehicle donation, and we ask your patience in making this program work for you!

Donate to Habitat's "Cars for Homes™" Program

Donations via the Cars for Homes™ Program help Habitat for Humanity Anchorage build homes in partnership with families within our community! Plus donating a car, truck, boat, motorcycle, or RV is quick, easy, and your donation may be eligible for tax deduction purposes if you itemize (consult the IRS or your tax advisor for details).

Depending on the make, model, year and condition, donated vehicles are sold at a wide variety of venues, including wholesale auctions, salvage auctions and parts yards, as well as scrap steel recyclers. Habitat's processing agent makes the arrangements to have your vehicle, keys and title picked up for processing and prepares all appropriate reports for IRS and donors on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. Tax receipts are sent to donors within a few days of the sale of the donated vehicle.

Net proceeds generated by donated vehicle sales are used by Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage to build homes in partnership with low-income families in our community. As of December 31, 2009, our affiliate had realized $17,275 from this program.
