2008 Faith as the Foundation Initiative

Shelter is a basic human need.  Millions of people worldwide still face a future robbed of hope by the lack of adequate shelter.  That is why Habitat for Humanity is determined that every of God's people has a decent place in which to live.  In the Municipality of Anchorage over 30,000 people live in substandard housing.  One of Habitat's goals is to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.

We need your help.  Former President Jimmy Carter made the assessment that if every faith community built or repaired at least one home per year, we could totally tranform the problems of housing and homelessness in the United States.

Many faith communities become involved in this exciting ministry because one person or committee is moved to action.  Their determination is often the spark God uses to provide decent shelter for a family in need.  Since 1992, in addition to keeping the mission of Habitat lifted up in prayer, the faith community has raised over $750,000 in house sponsorships and provided volunteers to help build homes for twenty-one (21) Partner Families - housing 106 people, including 68 children.

Is God calling your faith community to action?  Click here to view our Faith as the Foundation Initiative Brochure, then call Mitchell Boone, Faith Relations Coordinator, or Jan Cawvey, Development Director, at 272-0800, to discuss how your faith community would like to participate.
