History

In January 1991, a group of Anchorage residents who believed in helping people help themselves began organizing to establish Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage (HFHA).  HFHA officially affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International in June 1992.  HFHA works with people who live in substandard conditions and with volunteers and donors throughout Anchorage.

Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage is one of over 2300 HFHI affiliates.  Together with our local supporters we are making a difference, house by house and family by family, in the battle against substandard housing.

  • Partner Families have seen their lives transformed, becoming stronger members of society and making a difference in their communities.
  • Ever-growing numbers of individuals, corporations, small businesses, community service organizations, and faith communities have stepped forward to be sponsors, adopt families or become volunteers to assist us in the work of Habitat.
  • Habitat for Humanity International has provided simple, decent housing for over 1,000,000 people in need from more than 3,000 communities worldwide.
  • Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage has built 60 homes and rehabbed three Habitat homes, housing 302 individuals including 197 children.
